Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy opens up about late singer’s death: ‘I felt numb’

The late One Direction singer Liam Payne’s girlfriend is breaking her silence in a new interview.
In an interview published Wednesday in The Sun, Kate Cassidy opened up about her heartbreak.
“It was a tragic accident and no, I never did think (he might die young). But, you know, we did have our own separate lives — this wasn’t the first time we have travelled separately,” she told the British outlet. “I just never thought this would have happened, that it would turn out the way it did.”
The British boy band alum, who was one-fifth of the beloved group, died at 31, at a Buenos Aires, Argentina, hotel after he fell from a balcony in October.

“It still doesn’t feel fully real for me that he’s not here,” Cassidy continued in her Sun interview, adding that “from the moment I met Liam, I genuinely believed we were soulmates; he was the most humble, charming, normal person you could ever hope to come across, and genuinely one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life.”
Cassidy said, “I feel like I just completely blacked out” and when she learned of Payne’s death and “when I officially found the news out to be true, I felt numb. I tried to call him. I called pretty much everybody,” adding that “you don’t think about the worst possible thing that can happen.”
Cassidy, who left Argentina shortly before Payne’s death, said she would not have done so had she known what was to come.
“Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end. Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina,” she said.
Kate Cassidy previously broke silence: ‘At a complete loss’
The influencer, who boasts over 850,000 followers on Instagram, and the “Strip That Down” singer went public with their relationship in 2022. Cassidy posted a photo of the pair making their red carpet debut at the British Fashion Awards in December of that year, calling the night “amazing” in a caption as Payne looked her way with a smitten smile.
She previously broke her silence about Payne’s death in a lengthy Instagram post.
“I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real,” she wrote on her Instagram story. “I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
Cassidy added in her Instagram story statement: “Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continued to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
